We have had a wonderful and busy week with Penny Wars, Red Ribbon Week, Book-o-ween, and the Pep Rally, and tonight we have our Movie in the Courtyard! We’d like to thank you for all your support!
Hunter’s Green Elementary would like you to join us for a program in honoring the men and women who have served our country on Tuesday, November 6, at 1:00 PM on the covered court. Come help us celebrate those who have made the ultimate sacrifice in the defense of our nation.
The Education Referendum has been a topic of conversation to our parents and community members.
Watch this video to see why a principal and student believe the Education Referendum would have a positive impact on their learning environment: http://bit.ly/schoolsimpact.
Early voting has already begun for the election that includes the Education Referendum to help schools.
Now is the time to familiarize yourself with the important issues. For most people, our district’s Education Referendum will be the final itemon the 2-page ballot, listed as “No. 3 Hillsborough County Referendum.” There is also an “Amendment 3” in the middle of the ballot, but that is not the same as the Education Referendum half-penny sales tax for our schools.
The half-penny sales tax would invest $131 million in our county’s students and schools each year for ten years – a minimum of a half-million-dollar investment at every school. The funding would be spent on specific projects to improve our public schools.
I wanted to let you know that Hillsborough County offers three options to give you the flexibility to vote when it’s most convenient for you: Early Voting, Vote by Mail, and Election Day voting.
Early Voting has already begun and runs through Sunday, November 4. There are 20 Early Voting sites open from 7 a.m-7 p.m. You can check the locations and wait times here: https://www.votehillsborough.org/Portals/Hillsborough/Documents/2018%20General%20Election/Early%20Voting%20Sites%202018.pdf.
On Election Day, November 6, you can vote in your precinct at your assigned polling place. Find your precinct here: https://www.votehillsborough.org/About-Voting/Three-Ways-to-Vote/Election-Day-Voting/Precinct-Finder.
Thanks for everything you do for our Hunter’s Green Panthers. If there is anything I can do to be of assistance, please feel free to call.

The next meeting will be November 30 at 6:45am in the Multipurpose Room.
The Dad’s club is planning a fun outing to see the USF Bulls Basketball team take on the Appalachian State Mountaineers on December 15th. Are you struggling with helping your child at home with Math homework? Does it seem like “your way” of doing math is not how we do math now? You are not alone! The topic parents talk to me most about is how to help their child at home. The strategies we use today to teach all of the operations (addition, subtraction, multiplication and division) are very different from the strategies we were taught when we were in school. The standard algorithm in addition and subtraction – the one where you line up the numbers and “carry the one” – isn’t taught until 4th Grade!!! However, students begin adding in Kindergarten through 3rd grade without using that strategy. Why all the madness??? In Kindergarten through 3rd grade, we are developing a strong number sense using place value and the conceptual idea of addition and subtraction rather than having students memorize a set procedure to add or subtract. We are fostering a problem-solving mindset. Using various strategies to solve problems, students persevere to make sense of these strategies to grow their own ability to problem solve and make sense of numbers and math. There is a great website with progression videos to show you how students learn topics throughout their years in school. See below.
Graham Fletcher is a math specialist known nation wide for his work with these progression videos and 3 Act Tasks. If you are seeking to understand how your child is learning math at school, visit the website above! He has videos available for Early Numbers and Counting, Addition and Subtraction, Progression of Division, Progression of Multiplication, and Fractions: The Meaning, Equivalence, and Comparison. Hopefully, these videos will help you to better understand how we are teaching math in elementary school! If you have any further questions feel free to email me at Jacqueline.email@example.com
The Makerspace at HGE is a very popular place to be. However, we have noticed that some items are either in high demand or we have not been able to collect them yet. The students are LOVING the Makerspace so we want to keep it fully stocked for them! We will always accept cleaned recyclable items such as water bottles, containers, shoe boxes, etc. Here are some other items that are on our wish list:
